TropiCaliente 2014 raises $65,000 for the Hurley

¡Club TropiCaliente!… “This is the one fundraiser I look forward to every year!” said a guest. The Latin band is jamming, the dance floor is electric, the locally donated food is scrumptious and plentiful, the open bar is stocked, and the auction items are hot! The buzz afterwards is consistent: “That is an amazing event.”

Just a few of the auction items this year were wine tastings for 20, week-long stays at beautiful vacation homes in New Hampshire and France, and a last minute addition of Red Sox tickets with the opportunity to be on the field with the players during batting practice! We also have the Fund-A-Need category which allows guests to fund a program of their choice and to be entered into a raffle for prizes like $800 in restaurant gift cards or Sox tickets. Because we were able to raise over $10,000 in this category, generous donors matched another $10,000! We are proud to announce that NPHS netted more than $65,000 from this event!

The money raised supports program enrichment, including Playworks recess support and inclusive play, Open Circle anti-bullying curriculum, tutoring, theater arts, visual arts, music instruction, test prep, after-school programs, mentoring, and sports; facilities improvements; and community building at the school.

It is a party with a purpose: to raise money for a bilingual Boston public school that was failing just 11 years ago and has now reached Tier 1 status.

Rumors are that next year’s event will be on Friday, May 8th, same place, same time…so stay tuned!
