Dear Members of the Hurley Community and Neighborhood Friends of the Hurley School,

We have made the difficult decision to postpone TropiCaliente, our annual gala fundraiser originally scheduled for May 8th. The coronavirus crisis has been devastating and we know that everyone has been affected. We hope that you and your family are safe and taking care to remain healthy as we navigate these difficult days.

The mission of Neighborhood Parents for the Hurley School (NPHS) is even more crucial now than ever as we face this unprecedented crisis. We are truly grateful to our TropiCaliente sponsors who reaffirmed their support despite the event’s cancellation. Thank you to James Anderson of Compass, Steven Cohen of Keller Williams, Melanie Olinto of Compass, and Vince O’Neill for supporting the Hurley community during the time Hurley students need it most. If your family, small business, or company has sponsored TropiCaliente in the past and would consider supporting NPHS now, we would gratefully welcome your outreach and support in this critical time.

NPHS has historically supported Hurley students while physically at school by funding educational interventions, capital improvements, and social-emotional support among other important needs.

As a result of the current health and economic crisis, NPHS is committed to helping the most vulnerable in our school community – more than 70% of Hurley students are considered high need. In the past few weeks, working directly with Principal Verano, NPHS has funded supplemental food/groceries for more than 20 Hurley families.

The NPHS may also fund online learning resources not provided by BPS for all Hurley students. We will continue to partner with Principal Verano and rely on her leadership to define the greatest needs for Hurley students in the coming weeks and months as we navigate this ongoing crisis.

The Hurley School is a one-of-a-kind school community in the South End, and we know that when students ultimately return to our school, they will be warmly welcomed back by Principal Verano and the dedicated teachers.

As NPHS continues to raise funds to bridge the gap between the BPS budget and what Hurley students need and deserve during this time, please consider making a gift in any amount.
